 Welcome in 2014

The Downtown Bangor Arts Collaborative (DBAC) would like to extend an enormous thank you to all of participating artists, businesses and community members who have helped support the Artwalks this past year. Your involvement and contributions are not only appreciated but were critical to each Artwalks’ success.  We hope you will continue to be involved during 2014.

The Artwalks for 2014 have been scheduled for:

March 14
June 13th
September 12
November 14

In an effort to help make participation in the Artwalk easy, registration is now available on the DBAC website at We encourage you to participate in each of the four Artwalks and ask that you register for each Artwalk ahead of time.

Those participants who registered at least two weeks before the event will have their name and studio on the Artwalk map that is distributed before each Artwalk.

For those of you who paid for a membership last year, we will notify you individually of your membership renewal date.

You are reading the inaugural Downtown Bangor Arts Collaborative newsletter. As part of our mission to increase awareness of the arts in the Bangor area, to enhance opportunities for artists, to disseminate information on arts-based educational opportunities, and to provide a much-needed support system for the arts in our community, we will be posting a monthly newsletter that includes information on Bangor’s art scene and events supported by the DBAC.  The newsletter will also list opportunities for involvement with the Artwalk and other DBAC events.
The success of each Artwalk depends on you, our members. Be sure to check out the newsletter and get involved.

  • Distributing posters and postcards.  We need volunteers to distribute Artwalk posters and postcards around Bangor and the surrounding communities.  This happens two weeks before each Artwalk. If you’re willing to help, please contact Brian Monahan at….

  • Contributing to the DBAC website. DBAC is currently looking to expand our website and its ability to serve our members. We would like to establish a series of project-based blogs that reflect the work of our members. Hosted on the DBAC website, these blogs will provide opportunities for artists to post and discuss current projects and creative explorations. For example, if you were involved in a “365-day” project where you collect items or take photos over the course of the year, the blog would provide a venue for chronicling your journey through the creative process, giving the local community a portal to your studio and a means of staying connected to what you are doing. If you are interested in contributing a project-based blog to the website, you will need to submit a proposal for consideration.  All projects accepted for the website will be set up for the artist and help will be available for those not familiar with the system. If you or your collaborative have an idea for a blog, please email us at
The culture and purpose of the DBAC Artwalk is deeply rooted in community connections. From this perspective, sales during Artwalks are not the only measure of success. Sales are important but it is the opportunity to create meaningful connections that last throughout the year and help us build a successful arts community. If we focus on creating opportunities for experiencing and talking about the arts, we will also generate the interest and connections that lead to sales.

DBAC’s mission is to create a diverse, integrated organization that can support our members and cultivate a rich arts community in Bangor. We are all part of the foundation upon which such a community can flourish. We like to think of what is happening in Bangor as an awakening or a renaissance. Together we can work to help it grow.

The DBAC realizes the importance of maintaining a cohesive vision for the future of our organization.  The development and support of arts-based events, services and opportunities are at the core of that vision and central to establishing a vibrant arts-based culture in Bangor.

We hope you’ll be part of our effort to make Bangor a nucleus for Maine’s rich and vital arts culture. The more people that know about and are engaged with the exciting cultural opportunities available right here in Bangor, the more opportunity there will be the arts and for artists to flourish. We see great promise for the arts in Bangor during the coming year.  We hope you will join us to help realize that promise.

We look forward to this bright year ahead.
